Music, Museums, And Movies. Oh my!
Our art scene has to be seen.
If you are into the arts, Asheville is the place to be. It was named one of the top 25 art destinations in America by AmericanStyle magazine, and with good reason: there is a gallery on just about every corner. Okay that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but at last count there where a dozen in a four block radius in downtown. Surely that number has already increased by now. Galleries have featured the works of such luminaries as John Lennon and Bob Timberlake, as well as lesser-known folk artists and area craftsmen. Plus, your new home is just a few hundred yards away from the up-and-coming River Arts District.
Take note.
Asheville also has a vibrant music scene: from rock and blues legends at the Orange Peel to The Bradenberg Variations performed by the Asheville Symphony Orchestra at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. Plus you'll find off-Broadway shows, and cutting edge theater performances.
Lights. Camera. Action.
If film is your art of choice, Asheville is one of the top destinations for film in the South. In addition to major Hollywood productions like Last of the Mohicans and Cold Mountain there are also little independent gems made here too. But making them is only half the story, they also have to be seen. We have a first run independent film venue, and we are one of only sixty-one cities worldwide who host the "48-hour Film Festival," and we host the Asheville Film Festival, featuring some of the best, but perhaps yet unknown, filmmakers in the world who come to show their films.
